Description about painting: The description of this Pauba painting will be similar as that for the larger Sahasrabhuj Lokeswar. Avalokiteswar is the one to guide all sentient creatures to Nirvana, with his eleven heads and one thousand arms. This interpretation of Avalokiteswar by the artist is unusual in the sense that the background is gold-painted. The long bluish-green silk scarf flowing down the sides of Lokeswar pulls the viewer beyond that avatar to the profuse and uncharacteristic golden backdrop. Here, the artist is seen to be experimenting with grammar of Poubha. |
