Batsa Gopal Vaidya is an eminent Nepali artist who has participated in many prestigious national, international exhibitions and is the recipient of several prestigious national and international awards. His works have been bought by discerning collectors from all over the world.

Batsa Gopal Vaidya resides in the ancient city of Lalitpur, Patan where he was born. Below his lattice windows the busy streets of Mangal Bazaar bustle with life. From his balcony the mountains and the fabled rooftops of Patan Durbar Square dominate the Himalayan skyline.

Batsa's Paintings capture this immediate surroundings. Culture and heritage dominate his paintings. Te preservation of heritage in a rapidly changing urban setting is one of his main concerns.

His oil paintings have a pleasing graphic and impressionistic quality about them. Each painting is a dream landscape shimmering out of the artist's own windows, ethereal in pastel hues. A magical ambience is created with recurring motifs: mountains, thick clouds and temples. Sharp, triangular tantric mountain shapes appear from within the womb of the more solid mountain forms, symbolizing the hidden mystery, spirituality and power of nature. A pensive Ganesh broods in the heavens, God is everywhere. To him, Ganesh is an Icon, Motif and a Mandala – the symbol of the expansion of consciousness. The detail from am old Newari window or door is isolated and explored to form the exotic borders that divide the painting into spiritual realms. Only celestial beings may inhabit this landscape.

S.K. Singha, a Nepalese art critics who reviewed Mr. Vaidya's paintings said, “constructed around symbolic images, Vaidya's works are truly Nepalese in character and original without being avant-grade, creating an atmosphere which is spiritual, the central characteristic of ancient Nepalese art. It is this aspect of his art which makes him an Artist whose imagination is deeply rooted in his soil.”

For his remarkable contributions towards the promotion and development of Nepalese arts, Batsa Gopal Vaidya was conferred Gorkha Dakshina Bahu fourth class by His Majesty the King. He has also the honor of being a recipient of prestigious awards like Birendra Gold Medal, NAFA and Gold Medal at Asian Art Biennial Bangladesh.
